Now Hiring for Summer 2014
We invite you to join us for the summer at our charming Alaska log lodge located along the scenic Glenn Highway between Palmer and Glennallen, Alaska. We are a family-owned and operated tourist resort business; featuring clean, comfortable, private guest cabins. We have a reputation for excellence in our field, welcoming Alaskans and tourists to our lodge with outstanding customer service. Your commitment to upholding this standard of excellence is required. Our guests come from all over the world and enjoy nearby hiking and mountain biking trails, bird watching, Dall Sheep viewing on the slopes behind the lodge, Matanuska River rafting, glacier hiking and just relaxing in a beautiful mountain setting.
As a summer staff member, we invite you to work hard with us for the summer while enjoying the team-oriented atmosphere, natural setting, and local recreational opportunities. We look for applicants with the ability to learn and a good attitude and are happy to provide on the job training for those with less experience. At Sheep Mountain your co-workers are also your housemates and friends. Although we are situated along the road system in Alaska, you should consider this area semi-remote. Having a vehicle is not necessary but does help you explore more of South-central Alaska when not working. Staff members must have the ability to entertain themselves with the nearby natural attractions (hiking, biking, rafting) or other self-directed activities (reading, writing, playing music, etc). We discourage alcohol-focused free-time and strictly enforce our no drugs policy.
We pay an hourly wage or monthly salary depending on position and experience; our staff work 30-45 hours per week depending on job position; a minimum 40 hours per week to be considered full-time. Gratuities are shared among all staff. Room and board packages are available to full-time lodge staff for $200 per month. Employee housing is two to a room in our Hillside House which has a common area, shower, microwave, refrigerator, washer/dryer, TV w/VCR, and local telephone line. Staff may bring their own laptop computers and subscribe to local ISP for internet connections at additional cost.
Summers at Sheep Mountain
Our location in a mountain environment means the weather can be cool, so bring your outdoor gear, sense of adventure and join us for a summer of working and playing in a beautiful mountain setting.
During the summer season we offer home-cooked meals to our guests and roadside travelers 7 days a week. Our menu features homemade chili, soup from scratch, fresh sourdough rolls, delicious burgers and dinner entrees. We expect our kitchen staff to follow the lodge recipes and learn from the owners to accurately make each menu item. We take pride in featuring fresh Alaska seafood and Alaska grown vegetables. We feel that a hearty meal at our lodge is a wonderful way to cap off an adventurous day in the mountains of Alaska. All cooks in our small kitchen help with all kitchen responsibilities including dish-washing, food preparation and line-cooking.
Applications for summer season positions are accepted beginning mid December until all positions are filled. Please indicate position(s) you are applying for in your application. Some positions may be filled by returning staff members but having your application on file is a first step.
Employment for these summer seasonal jobs runs from mid-May through mid-September. Applicants who are available for a full season of summer employment are given first preference (mid May to Sept. 15).
We take pride in our friendly hospitality, welcoming guests from all over the world to our lodge. We expect our employees to upkeep our standards and offer a smile and helpful information to each and every guest. Each summer, travelers from all over the world come to our doorstep and we have the privilege of being able to share Alaska with them.
